I finally moved into my permanent residence today! I am living in the exchange student’s community. In my house there are three other girls so far and I have one more that will be arriving within the next few days. It has been great meeting the other exchange residents so far, and I have a feeling that we are going to have fun time! With the whole registration process we still have not accomplished much. The process has been hell. Before you can register for classes you have to unblock your account. However, before you can unblock your account you need African health insurance. Before you can apply for African insurance you need to have a South African bank account. Once we got to the bank we found out that we need our permanent housing address, which we did not have until today. So each day with registration it has seems like you run building to building, and back and forth across campus and accomplish nothing! Hopefully today we will get somewhere now that we have our permanent housing.
Today I finally got my account unblocked! This was a step in the right direction. All day I have been running around campus trying to figure out different classes that I can take. Once I figure out my classes and get the okay from each department head I can make my timetable and see if all the classes will fit in my schedule. My exciting news for the day happened today while on campus. I was waiting for the elevator and a lady ask if I was American. We then started talking and she told me that once she studied in the United States at Cornell College. She is now a professor at the University of Pretoria. She then told me that I need a real tour of South Africa. She offered when I have time she will take me on a tour around South Africa. The best part is that her husband is a doctor and she will be taking me to observe where he does medical work in a rural city! I cannot wait!
